From an interview with Bowling Press Pro (BPP) on January 2 , 2002

BPP: You recently had the opportunity to meet tennis legend, Billie Jean King, at this year's women's US Open. What was it like for you to meet her?

ALETA: It was very nice because I have watched and listened to her for so long. And to meet her, especially after how much she helped our tour, makes it even nicer.

BPP: Helped your tour, how?

ALETA: Billie Jean (and the Women's Sport Foundation) were very instrumental in us (PWBA players) sticking together to help make this US Open a prosperous and equal event.

BPP: What is Billie Jean King like?

ALETA: She was very down to earth. She has the personality that she is very easy to talk to. She had lots of positive things to say about our tour. She said, "You don't even realize what a good commodity you have." Those were her exact words.

BPP: What did you talk about with Billie Jean King?

ALETA: We only had a brief moment to talk to her, but she was very personable and interesting. And she was interested in what we do. She asked some intelligent questions about bowling balls and had shown so much respect for our sport, and all she did not know about it. It was neat. The conversation then went to tennis racquets, and how each tennis player likes them strung with different tensions. Monica Seles, she said, strung hers so tight they would often break. It was interesting to learn what other professionals know, and do, in their sport. Then I asked her how accurate the movie was on her life. She said it was pretty accurate. Except the part when she had all the players together in the meeting, to unify their position with the USTA. She said that the movie made it look real casual. In fact, it was very intense. She locked the door and had all of the paperwork ready to be signed - by-laws and everything already done, if everyone came together. She said that she worked all those years for this, and was not going to give up this opportunity to make a stand to make the prize funds equal.

BPP: What was most interesting about meeting Billie Jean King?

ALETA: She is an icon in women's sports. She's walked the walk.

BPP: What was her message to you?

ALETA: To stick together. And when she addressed us with the microphone, before our Squad bowled, she wanted us to think about all the little girls in the world, and for us to do what we can to help them be able to realize their dreams.

BPP: Aleta, like Billie Jean King, you're really a legend in your own time. What do you feel you contribute to women's professional bowling?

ALETA: That you can make a living throwing a bowling ball. It may not yet be probable, but it is possible.
